5 quick steps to stopping an offense

1.      Match-ups – identify who are the feeders, shooters and “mailmen”; appropriately cover them
2.      Identify the “QB” – devise a plan to cover him with or without the ball
3.      Communication – when mismatches occur ( and they will) make sure the entire defense is ready to communicate. This includes the defensive “huddle” after a score; be sure to efficiently articulate – who was on ball, who had the adjacent men and who was responsible for the crease –
4.      Have a back-up plan. Plan A does not always work – Have B ready to implement – maybe go man to man, shutoff or a zone. The key is to have a plan B.
5.      Know the opponent’s key weakness – they all have them – see if you can exploit that weakness.
